Who runs this site

This website, trentchallis.com, is the personal site of Trent Challis. Questions about privacy or data can be sent to [email protected].

What is collected

The site has no login, no account, and no forms that store your details. The one thing it does is measure traffic, using a privacy-friendly, server-side analytics pixel (Leadpipe), so I can see which pages are read and roughly where visitors come from. That is the only tracking on the site.

Cookies and consent

Analytics runs in a consent-gated way. When you first arrive, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies:

  • If you decline (or ignore the banner), the analytics pixel does not load at all — no script runs and nothing about your visit is measured.
  • If you accept, the Leadpipe pixel loads and measures your visit server-side. It does not use advertising cookies or build a cross-site profile of you. Your choice is remembered in your browser so you are not asked again.

You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser, which brings the banner back on your next visit.

Third parties the pages talk to

Loading a page may make requests to a few external services, none of which the site shares personal information with beyond the technical basics (such as your IP address, which any web request necessarily reveals):

  • Leadpipe — privacy-friendly, server-side traffic measurement. It only loads after you accept, as described above.
  • Typefaces are self-hosted on this domain — there are no third-party font requests when you load a page.
  • Cloudflare — the content-delivery and security layer in front of the site.
  • YouTube — only on pages containing the embedded BBC archive video, and only if you play it. The embed uses YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode.

Each of these has its own privacy policy governing what it does with request data.

Legal bases and your rights

For visitors in the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area, analytics is carried out on the basis of your consent, and no analytics cookies are set until you give it. Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you have rights to access, correct, or ask for deletion of personal data held about you, to withdraw consent, and to complain to a supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office). Because this site keeps no directly identifying records of its own, most requests are best directed to the third parties above; you are welcome to contact me and I will help where I can.

Data retention

The site itself stores nothing about you. Any analytics data is retained by Google according to the property’s configured retention period and Google’s own policies.
